Hout Bays winter storms
Winter as ever brings a change in the weather, right now we have a very un seasonal South Easter gale, this wind is normally a summer trade wind.

The winds whip up the sea and that in turn breaks off the Kelp sea weed, some has found its way right into our harbour and the HBYC marina.
Its also cold and the distant mountains now have snow.

Happy on his boat in Hout Bay South Africa
What can be better than messing about on boats!
Sailing is just part of the fun in boat ownership, Francois built his boat back in 1977 and is still having fun.

Seen here at the HBBY and would you believe just at the start of spring here in the cape.
Boat ownership, its fantastic!

Why we live in Hout Bay near Cape Town
Simple really, the place is just magical and has scenic views we normally only see in post cards?

This is the view from the Noordhoek, Kommetjie side and towards Hout Bay, thats the back of Cape Towns Table Mountain on the right of the picture.
Click on it and see if they enlarge?

The view towards Hout Bay and from Noordhoek Beach.

Further South is Cape Point and thats just as nice.

On the beach a boat rescue in Hout Bay
No this has nothing to do with that Chris Rea mega hit song On The Beach from about twenty five years back, this is today and just a short while ago.
Gareth, a senior crew and skipper boards Drumbeat 2 as we depart the harbour wall in Hout Bay, why? read on.

Barry the owner of the boat is at the helm, the mission is to pull a local yacht of the beach.

Make the pictures larger by clicking on them.
Here the HBYC club barge, manager, sailing manager and marina staff are trying to run a line down to the boat.

The Station 8 NSRI crew got involved and went ashore to may a line fast to the boat.

More on this drama and as a more detailed report in the morning.
All pictures by Roy McBride using a Canon G11 digital camera.
The owner and only person aboard the boat was fine, he walked back to the harbour, while the NSRI deployed their big boat and got a line to the boat and towed it back to harbour.
Well done to all concerned!

Hout Bays yacht club summer for a day brings a pot luck fest!
I say summer, well that was yesterday and we now have five days with rain predicted, some places inland last night saw temperatures drop to minus seven degrees!

Anna did a cook up of some black mussels, if you walked past you were invited to try them.

As you can see, it was just like summer in Hout Bay yesterday but today we have the start of a week of rain and the clouds have filled in that nice blue sky of yesterday.

Hout Bay the home of Hillman Imps in South Africa
Imps have been a part of my life for a very long time, ten in all and counting the return of one that was sold four and a half years back I guess thats now car number eleven.

Right now the 1971 Hillman Imp under a full restoration is away for other works and the 1967 Hillman Californian Coupe is having new front suspensions fitted.

Do you know of any Hillman Imps in South Africa for sale?
Engine rebuild parts are in stock, restored cars are a possibility but we need more cars.

Hillman Californinan Coupe, a rare export model.
New parts in the front brakes include the cylinders, lininings and flexible hose to the brake fluid.
The steering rack rubber gaiter is a very hard to find part.

Pre assembly sorts out where each bolt belongs.
